James E. Carty, III. Esq.
Managing Attorney
James E. Carty, III. Esq. is a 1987 Harvard Law School graduate. Mr. Carty graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government and African American Studies in 1982. He is a former IBM Marketing Representative who began his legal career with a large New York City law firm, where he practiced in the areas of information technology law, intellectual property law, general corporate law, commercial law, and financing and securities law.
Mr. Carty is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, New York, Washington, D.C. and Texas.
Mr. Carty is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and he is also a member of the Elder and Disability Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. Mr. Carty has enjoyed presenting many seminars on Elder Law and Estate Planning to church and community groups.
Mr. Carty is the former Chairman of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the National Bar Association. He has also served as Chairman of the Commercial Liability Subcommittee of the Computer Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Mr. Carty is a former editor of the National Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section Newsletter and he actively participated in the drafting of the American Bar Association’s Model Funds Transfer Services Agreement and Commentary. Mr. Carty has been a member of the American Bar Association (Science and Technology Section, Electronic Commerce and Information Technology Division; Business Law Section, Committee on the Law of Commerce in Cyberspace; and Intellectual Property Law Section). Mr. Carty has also been a member of the Computer Law Association.
Mr. Carty has served as a faculty member for a number of continuing legal education courses including: (i) Practicing Law Institute’s Courses entitled “eCommerce: Strategies for Success in the Digital Economy”; (ii) the NBA Annual Convention Seminar entitled “The Importance & Impact of Intellectual Property in the New Millennium for the Sports, Arts and Entertainment Lawyer”; (iii) the NBA Annual Convention Seminar entitled “Hot Intellectual Property and Information Technology Issues”; (iv) the NBA Mid-Year Conference Seminar entitled “Intellectual Property and Information Technology Issues for Corporate Counsel”; (v) the NBA Region IV “Law and Technology Seminar”; (vi) Practicing Law Institute’s Courses entitled “Doing Business on the Internet: The Law of Electronic Commerce”; (vii) the National Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section Annual Convention Seminars entitled “Mining for Intellectual Property Gold in Commercial Transactions”; and (viii) the Lexis Counsel Connect “Law of the Electronic Road Seminar”. He has also served as a luncheon speaker on “Electronic Commerce & Technology Acquisition” for the Government Patent Lawyers Association. Mr. Carty has also served as a speaker on “Overcoming IP Barriers to Successful eCommerce” for the Aerospace Industries Association.
